Choosing self-adjusting wire strippers

Separate the two adjustments

The head adjusts to wire size within the documented range. The stop controls insertion or exposed length, so it still needs to match the connector documentation. Some tools also have a separate fine adjustment for difficult insulation.

Match the workbench layout

Front-entry models can be a useful choice when you present short leads from the end. Compare that geometry with side-entry pliers, then check whether the cutting or crimping function has a narrower range than stripping.

Does an automatic head also set strip length?

No. Length is a separate requirement. Compare the stop and its published range.

Can one tool cover every conductor construction?

Check the model. Some tools have separate largest solid and stranded sizes.

Is a wire stripper kit different from a combination plier?

A kit may supply a separate terminal crimper, whose terminal type and gauge range should be checked on their own.
