Choosing fine-wire and precision strippers

Find the fine end of the actual range

Compare 30 AWG solid and 32 AWG stranded as separate fits. A compact tool can have a coarse minimum, while a dedicated fine-wire model may extend to smaller conductors without covering the larger ones on the same bench.

Check whether length can repeat

A dial can change the gauge or blade opening. A calibrated stop changes the length exposed. Jonard's ST-450 and ST-500 show why those two settings deserve separate columns when selecting a tool.

Department questions

Is 36 AWG finer than 26 AWG?

Yes. A larger AWG number indicates a smaller nominal conductor size.

Does a depth adjuster give a calibrated strip length?

Only a separately documented length stop provides that reference.

How should I compare a hole diameter with an AWG listing?

Use the maker's chart for solid and stranded wire. Diameter over insulation and bare conductor size are different measurements.
