Choosing nm and flat-cable strippers

Read the marking on the jacket

A 12/2 NM-specific opening addresses a complete cable designation, while a 12 AWG notch addresses one conductor. A dual NM model may support 12/2 and 14/2, or 10/2 and 12/2, depending on its exact part number.

Treat other flat cable profiles separately

A flat PVC or fiber-drop jacket can have a similar outline but different materials and inner construction. For tools that list width and conductor area in mm², verify both values before matching the cable.

Compare these selections

Department questions

Will a 12 AWG wire notch fit 12/2 NM sheath?

The 12 AWG notch is for a conductor. Look for the complete 12/2 NM designation for jacket work.

Does a 12 mm width guarantee all flat cable fits?

Check material, internal construction and the manufacturer's other dimensions as well.

Can a flat fiber drop be treated like flat NM?

Choose a documented fiber-drop tool for its specific profile and materials.
